Tassel Cord-rush is an attractive native grass renowned for its distinctive tassel-like flower heads and elegant upright growth that creates beautiful textural displays in water gardens and wetland areas. This hardy species produces distinctive brown tassel-shaped flower clusters at the tips of slender stems that provide ornamental interest and movement in the garden breeze. The narrow, rush-like foliage creates attractive fine-textured evergreen clumps that add vertical structure to plantings. Hardy and adaptable once established, it thrives in moist to wet soils and full sun to partial shade positions, tolerating both waterlogged and moderately dry conditions. Perfect for water gardens, pond margins, and areas where ornamental native grasses with distinctive flowering create naturalistic wetland displays.
Baloskion tetraphyllum naturally occurs in southeastern Australia, thriving in moist to wet soils along waterways, swamps, and wetland margins with full sun to partial shade exposure in temperate climates.
Cultural SIgnificance
Traditionally valued by Aboriginal peoples as part of wetland ecosystems, with various rush species being important for weaving baskets, mats, and other traditional items, while wetland areas provided essential resources and cultural sites.
