Description

Small tree or large shrub with a rounded habit, pale papery bark and narrow, gland-dotted leaves. Produces short terminal clusters of white flowers in spring, followed by small woody capsules in short spikes and leafy clusters. Suited to full sun and well-drained soils, including saline and seasonally dry sites. Responds to pruning and can be maintained as a dense shrub.

Habitat

Habitat: Occurs in south-eastern South Australia and western and northern Victoria, with scattered occurrences in Western Australia, typically in saltmarsh, saline shrubland and around salt lakes on saline soils and seasonally wet flats.

Cultural SIgnificance

As part of Australia’s diverse Melaleuca family flora, this species represents the important paperbark communities that were traditionally valued by Aboriginal peoples for their bark uses, medicinal properties, and role in coastal and inland ecosystems.
