Dracophyllum secundum is a small slender shrub with a fine, architectural form and narrow, sword-like glossy green leaves radiate from the stems. Small, tubular flowers appear in clusters from mid winter through to early summer, typically white to pale pink Well suited to feature planting, it provides a striking accent in gardens and a spectacular container specimen.
In nature it occurs mostly on sandstone rocky moist cliff faces and gullies in Eastern NSW, growing in well-drained soils with low nutrient levels. It prefers acidic, free-draining soil in light shade and benefits from regular moisture during establishment and dry periods. Moderately frost tolerant once established, it responds well to light pruning to maintain form and should be grown with low-phosphorus fertilisers.
