Jounama Snow Gum is a small mallee or tree to around 10–12 m tall with smooth, mottled white, grey and cream bark that sheds in ribbons. Leaves are glossy green and lance-shaped. Clusters of creamy white flowers appear from angular, slightly glaucous buds, followed by woody capsules. A hardy alpine form of Snow Gum with a graceful, sculptural habit.
Occurs naturally in high elevation areas south-eastern New South Wales, around the Brindabella and Juonama Ranges. It grows on exposed slopes and ridges in subalpine woodland and open forest, often on rocky or granite-derived soils.
