Description

Darwinia citriodora is a compact to medium shrub with a dense, upright to spreading habit and fine branchlets lined with small, ovate leaves. The foliage releases a strong lemon scent when crushed. Habitat

Darwinia citriodora occurs naturally in south-west Western Australia, mainly through the Wheatbelt and Goldfields regions, where it grows in sandy or gravelly soils in open woodland and heath. These habitats are low in nutrients with excellent drainage and a dry summer, winter-rainfall climate. In cultivation, it performs best in well-drained sandy or gravelly soils, in a sunny to lightly sheltered position with good air movement. Once established it tolerates dry periods; avoid waterlogging and high-phosphorus fertilisers, and lightly prune after flowering to maintain a compact habit.
