Dampiera altissima is a tall, upright native plant with slender stems and narrow leaves. The foliage is soft green to grey-green and may feel slightly hairy. From spring to early summer, the plant produces eye-catching blue to deep purple flowers held along the upper stems. The fan-shaped flowers are a distinctive feature of this group of plants.
This species is native to south-western Western Australia, where it grows in open heathland and woodland on sandy, well-drained soils. In gardens, Dampiera altissima prefers a sunny spot with free-draining soil and only light to moderate watering once established. It is well suited to native gardens and informal plantings, especially in regions with dry summers.
