Epacris longiflora ‘Fuchsia Heath’ is an open, spreading shrub with slender, arching stems and fine, needle-like foliage. Long, tubular red flowers tipped in white are carried freely along the stems for much of the year, especially through the cooler months, attracting honeyeaters and other small birds. Several cultivars are available, including compact forms and selections with pink or white flowers. Ideal for cottage gardens, mixed borders, rockeries or containers where extended colour is desired.
Native to coastal and near-coastal heath and open forest in New South Wales and southern Queensland, it grows naturally in well-drained, sandy, acidic soils. Plant in full sun to part shade with reliable drainage and protection from drying winds. Regular watering during dry periods and light pruning after flowering will encourage dense, tidy growth. Well suited to mild, temperate climates.
