Grevillea ‘Metal Red’ is a striking, medium-sized shrub grown for its vivid metallic-red flowers and finely textured foliage. Reaching around 1.5 meters high, it forms a dense, rounded habit suited to use as a feature plant or informal hedge.
Its deeply divided grey-green leaves provide a soft backdrop to the bold, spider-like flower clusters, which appear for much of the year, peaking in winter and spring. The nectar-rich flowers are highly attractive to birds, particularly honeyeaters, making it a great choice for wildlife-friendly gardens.
This cultivar thrives in well-drained soils and performs best in a sunny to lightly shaded position. Like most grevilleas, it prefers low-phosphorus soils and benefits from minimal fertiliser input. ‘Metal Red’ is well-suited to temperate and warm climates and shows good tolerance to light frosts once established. It is moderately drought-tolerant, making it ideal for low-water-use gardens, landscapes, and coastal plantings. Good air circulation and sharp drainage are essential to ensure long-term health, particularly in humid regions.
