Leionema phylicifolium is a compact shrub with fine, aromatic foliage and a naturally dense, rounded habit. Clusters of pale pink to cream buds open to creamy white or soft yellow star-shaped flowers from late winter through spring, creating an attractive contrast against the rich green foliage. A reliable garden shrub suited to rockeries, mixed shrub borders and bush-style plantings, it responds well to light pruning after flowering to maintain a compact shape.
Found throughout Victoria, New South Wales, Tasmania and south-eastern South Australia, Leionema phylicifolium grows in open forests, woodlands and heath on rocky hillsides and ridges with sandy, gravelly or well-drained soils. Adaptable to a range of conditions, it performs best in a sunny to lightly shaded position with good drainage and will tolerate extended dry periods once established.
