Slow-growing tree; small, shiny, green leaves with toothed margins; catkins of greenish flowers in late Sp-S. Tolerates shade. New growth may be bronze to reddish. Will grow much larger with age.
Nothofagus cunninghamii naturally occurs in cool temperate rainforests and high altitude areas of Tasmania and Victoria, thriving in moist well-drained soils with high humidity and cool conditions.
