One of the best blue flowering native shrubs available. Also one of the larger members of this genus, it is a small shrub but has the ability to sucker freely in open soil. It has soft grey-green leaves and produces fan-shaped bluish purple flowers with a yellow centre in spring and early summer. Its suckering habit makes it perfect for groundcover, informal plantings, or adding a splash of colour. Bees and butterflies are often attracted to the flowers.
It occurs naturally along the south-eastern coast of Australia, from Queensland through New South Wales to Victoria, growing in open woodland on well-drained soils. In gardens, it thrives in sandy, medium, or heavier soils, tolerates dappled shade to full sun, and needs only light watering once established. Its hardy, spreading nature makes it low-maintenance and ideal for naturalistic plantings.
