Description
South Esk Pine is a distinctive native conifer renowned for its elegant pyramidal form and exceptional cold tolerance that creates beautiful structural elements in Tasmanian and cool climate gardens. This hardy species produces attractive scale-like foliage in blue-green tones that remains evergreen year-round, with small woody cones adding textural interest. The naturally pyramidal growth habit provides excellent form for windbreaks and screening while requiring minimal maintenance. Extremely hardy and drought tolerant once established, it thrives in well-drained soils and full sun positions with excellent frost tolerance. Perfect for windbreaks, feature plantings, and areas where native conifer form combined with cold climate resilience creates reliable landscape structure.
Callitris oblonga is endemic to Tasmania, naturally occurring in dry sclerophyll forests and woodlands with well-drained soils and full sun exposure in cool temperate climates with excellent frost tolerance.
