Dampiera linearis is a variable plant with several forms in cultivation, ranging from low and spreading to more upright habits. It has slender stems and narrow, linear leaves that are soft green to grey-green and may be lightly hairy. The fan-shaped flowers are usually bright blue to violet and appear mainly in spring and summer, creating a strong visual contrast with the fine foliage.
This species occurs naturally across southern Australia in open woodland, heathland, and grassland, growing on sandy or well-drained soils. In gardens, Dampiera linearis performs best in a sunny position with free-draining soil and low to moderate watering once established. Its adaptability and range of forms make it suitable for rockeries, groundcover plantings, and naturalistic garden designs.
