Apple Box is a distinctive native tree renowned for its rough fibrous bark on the trunk and smooth mottled grey bark above that creates beautiful displays in cool climate gardens. This hardy species typically grows 20-25 meters tall and produces clusters of small white flowers from February to March that attract nectar-feeding birds and native bees, producing high-quality honey. The glossy green, lance-shaped adult leaves provide attractive evergreen foliage that withstands frost and cold conditions. Hardy and adaptable once established, it thrives in well-drained soils and full sun to partial shade positions with excellent frost tolerance. Perfect for feature plantings, windbreaks, and areas where distinctive bark texture combined with cold climate resilience creates reliable landscape structure.
Eucalyptus bridgesiana naturally occurs from near Stanthorpe in Queensland south through NSW slopes and ranges to eastern Victoria, thriving in well-drained soils with excellent drainage and full sun to partial shade exposure in cool temperate climates with high frost tolerance.
