Robyn Gordon is one of Australia’s most popular native shrubs, renowned for its spectacular red and orange spider flowers that bloom continuously throughout the year. This vigorous hybrid produces masses of nectar-rich flowers that attract honeyeaters, lorikeets, and other native birds, creating a wildlife haven in any garden. The dense, spreading habit and attractive divided foliage make it excellent for screening, mass plantings, or feature displays. Perfect for bird gardens, native landscapes, and low-maintenance plantings that deliver year-round color and wildlife activity.
Grevillea ‘Roby Gordon’ is a hardy and adaptable cultivar, tolerant of both light frost and drought once established, though it benefits from occasional supplementary watering during extended dry periods. It performs best in full sun to partial shade and is suited to a wide range of soil types, provided they are well drained.
For optimal growth, slightly acidic to neutral soil conditions are preferred. As with most grevilleas, it is sensitive to high phosphorus levels, so any fertiliser applied should be low in phosphorus and suitable for native plants.
Cultural SIgnificance
While this is a modern hybrid cultivar, it represents the successful breeding of native Australian plants and continues the tradition of Grevilleas being important nectar sources for Aboriginal peoples and native wildlife.
